The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines is an entry-level certification offered by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), one of the most popular and widely recognized wine education organizations in the world, offering qualifications that are highly respected by both enthusiasts and professionals across the industry.

WSET’s certifications, including the Level 1, 2, and 3 awards in wines, as well as their spirits programs, are seen as a mark of credibility and expertise.

The Level 1 course focuses on the fundamentals of wine, introducing participants to the basic principles of wine tasting, the different types of wine, and how to identify key characteristics such as taste and aroma. The curriculum also covers food and wine pairing, as well as the basic principles of wine storage and service. This certification is perfect for beginners who want to develop a deeper appreciation for wine in a structured, yet approachable way.

While most participants start with Level 1, those with prior wine knowledge—such as professionals or avid enthusiasts—may be eligible to skip to Level 2, which dives deeper into wine regions, grape varieties, and the production process.
